Re-watching the trailer for Suicide Squad, the upcoming super villain team-up film from Warner Bros. and DC Comics, I realized that although the team’s mission is hinted at, it’s also never exactly defined — it’s all about creating an atmosphere, introducing each major player, and providing the audience with a look at Jared Leto’s new iteration of The Joker.
Now the movie has an official synopsis, and it also holds back on the details of the team’s mission:
It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
“An enigmatic, insuperable entity,” huh? I have no inside knowledge of who this movie’s villain is, but you can read about the biggest rumor right here if you’re OK with potential spoilers. Do you think Doomsday maybe survivesBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the team is tasked with taking him down? Or could they be talking about Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor? The roster of DC Comics villains they could work with is insane, so the possibilities are huge. We’ll find out for sure on August 5th, 2016.
